Holidays close to home
These packages are for people already living in Malaysia, whether you are a Malaysian citizen or one of the many Indian and international families who have made the country home. A domestic trip means no long-haul flight, no currency exchange and short travel times, so even a long weekend is enough for a proper break.
Malaysia also packs remarkable variety into one country. Within a short flight or drive you can swap the skyline of Kuala Lumpur for the beaches of Langkawi, the heritage streets of Penang or the rainforests of Borneo, and sample nasi lemak for breakfast, Penang laksa for lunch and seafood by the sea for dinner.

Planning tips for domestic travellers
- Book early for school holidays and public holidays, when domestic flights and hotels in Langkawi and Genting fill quickly.
- Sabah and Sarawak run their own immigration checks, even on flights from Peninsular Malaysia. Carry your MyKad or, if you are not a Malaysian citizen, your passport and pass.
- Genting Highlands is noticeably cooler than Kuala Lumpur, so pack a light jacket.
- Leave space in your luggage for duty-free shopping in Langkawi.
When to go
December to March is the classic beach season, and June to September is popular for island hopping, particularly on the east coast islands that close during the north-east monsoon. Travelling in the rainy season can bring special deals and discounts. Our guide to the best time to visit Malaysia covers each region in detail.
